Riad El Tunsi was born in the capital city of Tunisia, in the part of town called Lafayette which is the heart beat of the artistic community in the country.  At the age of fourteen, Riad began taking music and oud lessons at Salah Elmehdi Musical Club on Rue de Palestine in Lafayette. Salah Elmehdi, a legendary Tunisian musical composer, recognized Riad's talent and encouraged him to pursue a musical career.

Riad's professional musical career began at the young age of sixteen when in 1986 he joined the Tawfik Lingliz Orchestra. He played the oud and was a vocalist for the orchestra.  He remained a member until 1990 when he went to the University of Oujda in Morocco to study sociology, history, law and political science.

In 1994, after completing his studies, he joined the cruise ships of the Mediterranean Sea with his own band.  Some of the cruise ships were Al Habib of Tunisia, Damem of Greece, The Prince of Norway and the Rodhenthy of Italy.

Immigrating to the United States in the mid 1990s, Riad continues to play oud and sings all of the different styles of Arabic music from, Tunisian and Middle Eastern to Khaligi and Rai.
